The beloved strategy video game, Wingspan, is set to expand its horizons with the highly anticipated Asia Expansion later this year. While the precise release date remains under wraps, the expansion promises to introduce a fresh array of feathered friends, a new game mode, and captivating new sceneries inspired by the diverse landscapes of Asia.
The Asia Expansion for Wingspan will bring breathtaking new elements from the vast regions of Asia. Players can look forward to encountering a variety of new birds hailing from countries such as India, China, and Japan, each equipped with unique abilities and intriguing trivia to enhance gameplay.
The expansion will feature 13 new bonus cards, including two tailored specifically for the Automa mode, enriching the solo play experience. Additionally, four new backgrounds, inspired by the stunning landscapes of Asia, will be included, along with eight new player portraits reflecting local cultural influences.
A highlight of the Asia Expansion is the introduction of the Duet Mode, offering an intense one-on-one experience. Players will compete on a special Duet Map, vying for habitat spaces and striving to meet different end-of-round goals.
To complement the visual upgrades, the expansion will also feature audio enhancements. Composer Paweł Górniak will add four new soothing music tracks, perfect for setting the mood for bird-watching and strategic planning.
Wingspan, the video game, is an adaptation of Elizabeth Hargrave's acclaimed card-based board game, which first debuted digitally on PC in 2020 and subsequently on mobile platforms in 2021. In the game, players work to attract the best birds to their wildlife preserve, creating powerful combinations that mimic the behaviors of real-life birds. With a limited number of turns, players must strategically manage food resources, egg-laying, and card draws. Each bird, from hawks that hunt to pelicans that fish and geese that form flocks, reflects their natural behaviors.
While awaiting the Asia Expansion, players can explore the existing European and Oceania expansions available on the Google Play Store.
