Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members have unlocked a fresh perk that's set to change the way they play: the ability to stream select games directly to their Xbox consoles without any downloads. This exciting update was shared today on the Xbox Wire news post, revealing that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members can now enjoy streaming games from the Game Pass catalog, as well as some games they own, on their Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One consoles through cloud streaming.

Previously, this feature was available on smart TVs, PCs, smartphones, and Meta Quest headsets, but its expansion to consoles marks a significant milestone. This innovation not only saves users time by eliminating the need for downloads but also conserves precious hard drive space that would otherwise be occupied by game installations.

To dive into this new feature on an Xbox console, follow these simple steps:

  • Navigate to My games & apps > Full library > Owned Games.
  • Look for the cloud badge on game pages to identify cloud-playable titles. Use the filter options by selecting Filter > Ready to play > Cloud gaming to find games quickly.
  • To start playing, select the game and then choose Play with Cloud Gaming. You can also initiate streaming directly from the Store app after purchasing select cloud-playable games.

Conversely, users can also stream any game installed on their Xbox consoles to devices with supported web browsers using this link. Note that this feature is no longer supported on the Xbox mobile app, but remains accessible on smartphones via the provided browser link. Xbox is also working to extend this feature to Samsung and Amazon Fire smart TVs, as well as Meta Quest headsets.

In another exciting development, Xbox announced that starting this month, Xbox and Xbox 360 backward compatible games will also support remote play.

According to Xbox, these advancements are part of a broader effort to optimize storage space on Xbox consoles. A new feature in the console's settings, accessible via My Games & Apps > Manage, now provides recommendations for freeing up hard drive space.

In recent years, Xbox has been proactive in addressing the increasing storage demands brought about by larger game sizes, such as those seen in titles like Call of Duty and Baldur's Gate 3. For those in need of additional storage, we've compiled a list of the best storage options for the Xbox Series X and S, particularly useful if you're not looking to invest in the newer Xbox models that come with expanded built-in storage.
