Xbox Games Series: A Tier List Analysis

After a robust Xbox Developer Direct to start 2025, the future looks promising for Microsoft and its impressive lineup of first-party studios. With a rich history of iconic game series, which ones excite you the most? Which series brought you the most joy during the glory days of the Xbox 360? And for those who've never owned an Xbox, which series are you eagerly anticipating on other platforms, given Microsoft's ongoing strategy to expand its library to the world?

Thanks to Microsoft's acquisitions of Bethesda and Activision Blizzard, the pool of legendary game series is vast. This tier list encompasses series from Xbox, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard, provided they have had more than one installment. Unfortunately, that means MachineGames' Indiana Jones doesn't make the cut yet—here's hoping for a sequel! Note that this isn't an exhaustive list of all Xbox game series, but a curated selection based on current relevance and historical significance.

Here's a look at my personal tier list, shaped by what I've enjoyed the most over the years:

For me, Doom easily secures an S-tier spot. The recent entries rank among my favorite first-person shooters, and I'm thrilled to see that Doom: The Dark Ages suggests id Software is keeping up the momentum. Forza Horizon also earns an S-tier ranking, as these games, perhaps only rivaled by Burnout 3 and Burnout Revenge, are the best racing games I've ever played. Placing Halo in the A tier might surprise some, but while Halo 2 and 3 are among the finest campaign shooters ever crafted, recent inconsistencies prevent it from reaching the top tier. I'm also more of a Fallout fan than an Elder Scrolls enthusiast—I'd choose a set of power armor over a dragon any day!
