Capcom Unveils New Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay Featuring Miyamoto Musashi

Capcom has treated fans to fresh gameplay footage of its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The reveal, showcased during the PlayStation State of Play, not only offered a glimpse of the exhilarating sword-based combat and imposing enemies but also confirmed the legendary Miyamoto Musashi as the game's protagonist.

PlayThe trailer highlighted Musashi's unmatched swordsmanship, alongside a glimpse into his mischievous and humorous personality. Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the late Toshiro Mifune, a renowned Japanese actor known for his portrayal of Musashi in various samurai films.

The game's setting is Kyoto, besieged by a malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning demonic entities from the underworld into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
