NieR: Automata offers a wide array of weapons, upgradeable multiple times, ensuring your favorites remain effective throughout the game. Weapon upgrades, however, require specific resources, including the less common Beast Hides. This guide details how to obtain and efficiently farm them.

Obtaining Beast Hides in NieR: Automata

Beast Hides are dropped by wildlife such as moose and boar found in specific map locations. These creatures are easily spotted on the mini-map with their white icons (unlike the black icons of machines). They tend to avoid players and robots. Farming them isn't straightforward, as their spawn rate is lower than machines.

Moose and boar appear in the game's ruined city and forest areas. Their reaction to you depends on your level relative to theirs: lower-level animals may flee, while higher-level ones might attack or become aggressive if you approach too closely. Wildlife possesses substantial health, making early-game encounters challenging.

Using Animal Bait can lure wildlife closer, simplifying the hunt. Wildlife, unlike continuously spawning enemies, requires specific actions for respawning:

• Fast traveling resets all enemies and wildlife.
• Traveling a sufficient distance away respawns wildlife and enemies in previously visited areas.
• Key story events can trigger respawns of nearby wildlife and enemies.

Efficient Beast Hide Farming

There's no dedicated farming method for Beast Hides. The best approach is to eliminate all wildlife encountered while exploring the forest and city ruins. Beast Hides have a decent drop rate, so you'll generally acquire enough unless upgrading more weapons than you can equip simultaneously.
