Amazon Slashes $50 Off Used: Like New PlayStation Portal

The PlayStation Portal, a unique handheld gaming accessory for the PS5, is now available at a discount when purchased used. Amazon Resale currently offers the PlayStation Portal in Used: Like New condition for just $150.23, shipped. This represents a significant 25% savings off the original retail price of $199. While the inclusion of a Sony warranty is uncertain, all Amazon Resale items come with the same 30-day return policy as new products. Given the popularity of this deal, we anticipate a quick sell-out.

Update: The price has dropped further to $150.23, marking the lowest price seen for a Used: Like New unit.

This device looks and functions as if it were brand new, with only moderate packing damage noted during inspection.

The PlayStation Portal transforms your PS5 into a portable gaming experience. It features an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen sandwiched between what resembles an extended DualSense controller. It supports streaming games from your PS5 at up to 60fps, complete with the same haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and touchscreen interface as the DualSense. For remote play outside your home, a very stable and fast internet connection is essential. Remember, the PS Portal is not a standalone device; it requires a PS5 to operate.

Update: You no longer need a PS5 to enjoy games on the PS Portal. Sony has rolled out a feature allowing direct streaming from the PlayStation Now cloud service. This means Portal owners can now choose to connect directly to Sony's cloud servers, accessing over 120 games including Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil 3 Remake, The Last of Us Part 1 Remastered, and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. However, this feature requires a subscription to the highest tier of PlayStation Plus, which costs $18 a month—a more affordable option compared to purchasing a PS5 and individual games.

It's worth noting that the PlayStation Portal isn't the only way to stream PS5 games over Wi-Fi within your home. The PS Remote Play app can be used on mobile devices or other gaming handhelds like the Steam Deck, though setting it up is more complex and lacks some of the DualSense's unique features.

PlayStation Portal Review by Seth Macy

"The PlayStation Portal surprised me in the best way possible. Initially skeptical, I found it far superior to using a phone with a clip-on controller. Its ability to let me play my PS5 games anywhere with a decent WiFi connection is a game-changer, especially when my family was using the TV for the Switch. While it's not a standalone device and requires a PS5, the lack of WiFi access that needs a web browser login and Bluetooth audio support are notable drawbacks. Still, it's an excellent solution for PlayStation Remote Play, and if not for these issues, I'd recommend it to every PS5 owner who loves handheld gaming or shares a TV."
