To unlock The Tournament quest in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, you’ll need to speak with Gyoji, a resident of Yamato. After you’ve taken down several members of The Shinbakufu, Gyoji will be waiting outside your hideout to discuss the tournament. The secret fighting arena is situated at Ominesanji Temple in Southeastern Yamato. You can find a viewpoint called Ominesanji Overlook to the west of the area. Synchronizing here will create a fast travel point, making future visits much easier. We highly recommend doing this for convenience in switching characters or returning to the location.

Upon arriving at Ominesanji Temple, have another conversation with Gyoji. He’ll inform you that you must win four one-on-one duels before facing the ultimate champion. After the cutscene, you can start the first fight by ringing the bell.

How to Complete The Tournament in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The Tournament in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* is a gauntlet of intense, high-stakes combat. Fortunately, you can take breaks between fights, allowing time to heal with rations and upgrade your weapons and armor as needed. To begin each subsequent fight, simply ring the bell again.

For success in these duels, we suggest using a long katana as Yasuke and mastering the art of dodging and parrying to exploit the fighters' vulnerable states. Make use of abilities like Power Dash and Payback when you have enough adrenaline. Knowing the weapons of your opponents can also give you a strategic edge. Here’s a breakdown of the fighters you’ll face:

  • Lady Masago wields a Naginata.
  • Lord Suguru uses a Katana.
  • Lord Hokuto fights with a Kanabo.
  • Lady O-Sen employs two Poison Katanas and throws ranged items.
  • Lord Unkai uses a Naginata and can heal by drinking if you keep your distance too long.

After defeating all opponents, speak with Gyoji on the hill. He’ll express his gratitude for your participation and mention future tournaments. Your "Test Your Might" trophy should unlock during this conversation.

Best Loadout and Skills for Tournaments in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The Long Katana is your weapon of choice for The Tournament in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*. Equip the highest rarity Long Katana you own, upgrade it to the maximum level at your hideout’s blacksmith, and consider adding an engraving that boosts Armor Damage or Armor Piercing. Your armor choice is crucial as it not only increases your health but can also provide game-changing abilities through engravings.

Before entering The Tournament, ensure you’ve unlocked the Samurai Daimyo Armor of Legend by defeating The Ox, a Shinbakufu member. Additionally, earn the Protector’s Armor by completing one of the Castles. The Samurai Daimyo Armor of Legend offers a 75% damage increase at the cost of reducing your health to 25%, while the Protector’s Armor enables you to parry unblockable attacks. Combining these engravings will allow you to defeat tournament enemies swiftly, provided you parry effectively and frequently.

For skills, allocate as many Mastery points as possible to the Long Katana and Samurai trees. Max out Combat Expert to enhance your melee damage and unlock Power Dash and Payback to dominate the fights.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S starting March 20th.
