Recent Windows 11 Update Disrupts Assassin's Creed Gameplay; Patches Released
A recent Windows 11 update (24H2) introduced compatibility issues for several Assassin's Creed titles. Fortunately, Ubisoft has swiftly addressed the problem for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla with dedicated patches. These updates, available via Steam, resolve launch and functionality problems reported by players after installing the Windows update. Note that the Origins patch requires 230 MB of free space, while the Valhalla patch needs 500 MB.
However, the issue persists for some Ubisoft games, notably Assassin's Creed Odyssey. While previous patches addressed critical problems in titles like Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, performance issues might still remain. Players experiencing difficulties with Odyssey are advised to postpone the Windows 11 24H2 update until a dedicated fix is released.
The root cause of the incompatibility remains unclear. Although Ubisoft has resolved the problem for two major titles, the delayed response to initially reported issues (five months prior to the official 24H2 rollout) is concerning, especially given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. The vast majority of games appear unaffected by the update, but this incident highlights the potential for unforeseen compatibility problems with major system updates.
