This Argentinian indie co-op title, initially launched on itch.io in September 2022, quickly gained recognition for its unique blend of documentary storytelling, experimental gameplay, and breathtaking dreamlike visuals. Atuel immerses players in the stunning, yet climate-change-affected, Atuel River Valley in Argentina. This isn't your typical game; it's an experience. You'll shapeshift, becoming various animals and elements within the ecosystem, intimately connecting with the landscape. One moment you're soaring through the sky, the next you're flowing as the river itself.
The game seamlessly integrates real-life interviews with historians, biologists, geologists, and local residents, offering a rich tapestry of perspectives on the region's history, current state, and future under the shadow of climate change. Matajuegos collaborated with The 12.01 Project, an international documentary team, to bring these compelling stories to life.
The game's visuals, inspired by the Cuyo desert, are truly captivating, creating an almost otherworldly atmosphere.
While you wait for Android pre-registration, explore the Steam page or official website for more information. The mobile release will feature localization in seven new languages and full controller support.
