Bandai Namco has announced the impending shutdown of PAC-MAN Mobile, a move that seems ironic as the legendary icon celebrates its 45th anniversary this year. This particular version of the game, initially launched over a decade ago and formerly known as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, offered more than just the classic arcade experience.
The official shutdown date for PAC-MAN Mobile is set for May 30th, 2025. In-app purchases were discontinued as of April 1st, but players can continue enjoying the game until the final date. If you're among those still playing, you have until May 30th to savor the experience.
Many players have voiced their disappointment over the decision to shut down the game completely rather than transitioning it to an offline version. An offline mode would have been welcomed by the community and could have continued to generate revenue for Bandai Namco.
PAC-MAN Mobile is not just about the iconic 8-bit arcade mode; it also includes a Story Mode with numerous original mazes to navigate. Additionally, the game features an Adventure Mode with limited-time themed events, allowing players to earn exclusive skins. The Tournament Mode offers weekly maze challenges across three difficulty levels. Players can also customize PAC-MAN, the ghosts, the joystick, and more with a variety of skins.
The game has faced increasing challenges over the past few years, with bugs and issues accumulating to the point where they likely contributed significantly to the decision to shut it down. The initial launch on Android was met with excitement, as players competed for high scores and leaderboard rankings, making it a fun and engaging experience back then.
If you're looking to play PAC-MAN Mobile one last time before its shutdown, you can still download it from the Google Play Store.
