Pearl Abyss Rejects PS5 Exclusivity Deal for Crimson Desert, Opting for Independent Publishing
Pearl Abyss, the developer behind the anticipated action-adventure game Crimson Desert, has reportedly declined a PlayStation exclusivity deal with Sony. The decision to self-publish the title was confirmed in a statement to Eurogamer. The developer emphasized its commitment to independent publishing, citing its belief that this approach will yield greater profitability. While acknowledging ongoing discussions and collaborations with various partners, Pearl Abyss maintained its self-publishing strategy.
No Official Release Date or Platform Confirmation
Despite speculation, Pearl Abyss clarified that no official release date has been set. The developer plans to showcase a playable build to media this week in Paris and to the public at G-Star in November. While a definitive platform list remains unannounced, a Q2 2025 launch on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox is anticipated.
Previous reports suggested Sony attempted to secure Crimson Desert as a PS5 exclusive, potentially delaying or preventing its release on Xbox. However, Pearl Abyss's commitment to self-publishing, driven by projected profitability, ultimately led to the rejection of the exclusivity agreement. The game's release date and full platform lineup remain subject to official announcements.
