The beloved anime adventure Shin Chan: Shiro & Coal Town has made its mobile debut via Crunchyroll Game Vault. This slice-of-life mystery originally launched for Nintendo Switch in Japan (February 2024) before its global Switch and PC release in October 2024.
The story begins with the Nohara family moving to rural Akita Prefecture when Hiroshi lands a job near his hometown. Settling into a traditional farmhouse, young Shinnosuke (Shin Chan) discovers the simple pleasures of countryside living alongside grandpa Ginnosuke - fishing in Akita's streams, catching insects in the woods, and learning farming techniques from grandma.
The peaceful routine shatters when the family dog Shiro suddenly reappears covered in coal dust and bolts away. Chasing after him, Shin Chan stumbles upon a mysterious train that materializes unexpectedly. Boarding it transports him to the enigmatic Coal Town.
Coal Town feels like a preserved relic from Japan's Showa era (1926-1989), complete with retro architecture and bustling workers. The atmospheric streets feature playgrounds, diners, shops and apartments - some interactive, others serving as background elements.
Here, Shin Chan meets Yuri, a young inventor seeking materials for her community-improving experiments. Their mission gets complicated when Yuri's brother Chuck arrives with his extreme "waste-free" initiative that ultimately disrupts the town's harmony. Players must help restore balance to Coal Town.
For fans who grew up with Crayon Shin-chan, this charming adventure offers nostalgic comfort. Available now through Crunchyroll Game Vault on the Google Play Store.
