Duskbloods' Hub Keeper on Switch 2: Cute and Exclusive

FromSoftware has recently unveiled more details about their upcoming Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods. This collaboration with Nintendo has influenced not only the game's style but also the design of the hub area's keeper, introducing a unique twist by making it cute.

The trailer, showcased during the Switch 2 Direct, ended with an intriguing shot of a winged rat character adorned with glowing glyphs. This character, as explained by director Hidetaka Miyazaki in an interview with Nintendo, serves a similar role to the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance," Miyazaki stated.

In a nod to the partnership with Nintendo, Miyazaki noted, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership." When asked to elaborate, he added with a laugh, "We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman."

FromSoftware's shrine keepers have traditionally been pivotal to the player's journey, offering guidance and power to progress. Familiar figures like Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll have been constants in their respective games. With The Duskbloods being a PvPvE title, it will be interesting to see the type of advice and guidance this winged rat will provide. Miyazaki teased that the team at FromSoft is experimenting with "a lot of new and interesting ideas," hinting at unexpected features when the game launches on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
