Dead Space 4 Rejected by EA

In a revealing online interview with Dan Allen Gaming, Glen Schofield, the creator of the iconic Dead Space series, disclosed that Electronic Arts (EA) has shown no interest in pursuing a fourth installment of the acclaimed sci-fi horror franchise. Dive deeper to understand the insights shared by Schofield and his fellow developers, Christopher Stone and Bret Robbins.

EA Currently Not Interested In Dead Space

The future of Dead Space 4 hangs in uncertainty following Schofield's announcement that EA rejected the proposal for a new game in the series. During their discussion on Dan Allen Gaming's YouTube channel, Schofield, Stone, and Robbins expressed their disappointment over the rejection.

The conversation took a heartfelt turn when Stone recounted a personal anecdote about his son's enthusiasm for the Dead Space series. After playing the game, his son pleaded, "Please tell me you’re making another Dead Space game!" Stone, with a chuckle, responded, "I wish."

The trio revealed their attempt to pitch Dead Space 4 to EA earlier this year, only to face immediate dismissal. Schofield explained, "We didn’t go too deep. They just said ‘We’re not interested right now, we appreciate it blah blah blah’ and we know who to talk to, so we didn’t go take it any further." He emphasized respecting EA's decision, acknowledging that "they know their numbers and what they have to ship." Stone added that the gaming industry is currently navigating "a weird place" where there's a reluctance to invest in older franchises, even those with a strong legacy like Dead Space.

Despite the positive reception of last year's Dead Space remake, which earned an impressive 89 on Metacritic and a Very Positive rating on Steam, EA's hesitance suggests that the success of the remake might not be compelling enough to greenlight a new title in the series. Schofield reiterated, "They know their numbers and what they have to ship."

Despite the setback, optimism persists among the developers. Stone expressed hope, saying, "Maybe one day, I think we’d all love to do it," with Robbins and Schofield nodding in agreement. Although they are currently involved in separate projects, their passion for Dead Space 4 remains undimmed. They have ideas ready and would eagerly return to the project given the opportunity, though not at the current moment. The vision for a new Dead Space entry is alive, and fans may yet see the beloved horror series make a thrilling comeback.
