For much of the 21st century, the *Final Fantasy* series was a PlayStation exclusive. However, with nearly 40 years of releases, reaching younger audiences and maximizing profits necessitates a multi-platform approach. This strategy has seen Square Enix port many titles to PC and release numerous remasters and special editions specifically for Nintendo's handheld consoles.
This isn't entirely new territory. The *Final Fantasy* and Nintendo relationship goes back to the series' debut on the Famicom in 1987. In fact, the first six mainline entries launched on Nintendo platforms before Square Enix shifted primarily to PlayStation with *Final Fantasy VII*.
With *Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth*'s PC release and a significant *Magic: The Gathering* expansion shining a spotlight on the series in 2025, many are eager to explore or revisit the *Final Fantasy* universe. Below is a complete list of *Final Fantasy* games currently available on the Nintendo Switch.
There are 20 *Final Fantasy* games playable on the Switch: 12 mainline entries, one prequel, and seven spin-offs. They're categorized below: mainline games (by original release date) and others (by Switch release date).

The first six *Final Fantasy* games are available in Square Enix's Pixel Remaster collection. Each features updated graphics, soundtracks, UIs, and new galleries. For a classic *Final Fantasy* experience, this is the ideal way to play.
The most recent mainline *Final Fantasy* release, *Final Fantasy XVI*, is currently exclusive to PS5 and PC. The likelihood of a mainline entry on Switch soon is low, given Square Enix's focus on the *Final Fantasy VII* Remake trilogy. While unlikely for the current Switch, rumors suggest *Final Fantasy VII Remake* and *Rebirth* could be part of a Switch 2 launch, potentially announced at a future Nintendo Direct.
