In the latest installment of Nintendo's Creator’s Voice series, Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the Final Fantasy Remake series, shared exciting news about the upcoming release of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on the Switch 2. This expanded version, originally launched for the PS5 in 2020, enhances the PS4's Final Fantasy VII Remake with improved graphics and lighting, and includes the Intermission DLC, featuring the adventurous ninja Yuffie in Midgar.
Currently available on PS5 and PC, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is set to leverage the enhanced capabilities of the Switch 2. Hamaguchi explained, "With the power of the Switch 2, we can now recreate Midgar with full specs," highlighting the potential of Nintendo's new handheld platform to deliver a top-tier gaming experience. He also emphasized the convenience of playing on the go, noting, "Being able to play this game on the Switch 2 in handheld mode means you can play it on the train while commuting to work." This portability is expected to foster more direct interaction and discussion among players.
Moreover, the Switch 2 version will integrate GameChat, allowing players to communicate with friends and share screens in real-time, enhancing the social aspect of gaming. Hamaguchi expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "I’m very excited to see this game playable on a portable system," and hopes to strengthen the partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand.
While only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been confirmed for the Switch 2 at this stage, Hamaguchi's comments suggest that future entries in the trilogy, including Rebirth and the final installment, might also make their way to Nintendo's new console. This development marks a return to Nintendo platforms for the Final Fantasy series, which began on Nintendo consoles before transitioning to the PlayStation with the iconic 3D debut of Final Fantasy VII in 1997.
