In *Genshin Impact* Version 5.5, set to launch on March 26, players will be introduced to two new characters: Varesa, a 5-Star Electro Catalyst, and Iansan, a 4-Star Electro Polearm. The Version 5.5 livestream showcased their kits, with Varesa's standing out due to its similarity to Xiao's playstyle, which is the focus of this article.
Varesa’s kit introduces a unique playstyle that mirrors Xiao's, especially in how she executes her Charged Attacks. She launches herself into the air, enabling Plunging Attacks while generating Nightsoul Points. As a character from Natlan, her Charged Attacks are central to her strategy, much like Xiao's reliance on Plunging Attacks.
Her Elemental Skill, Riding the Night-Rainbow, transforms her into a luchador pro wrestler, charging forward to deal Electro DMG. Post-skill, her Normal Attacks turn into Plunging Attacks without stamina cost, echoing Xiao's Elemental Burst, Bane of All Evil, which enhances his jumping and Plunging Attack capabilities.
With enough Plunging Attacks, Varesa can activate her Fiery Passion state if her Nightsoul Meter is full, boosting her attacks and Burst. This makes Plunging Attacks a core component of her gameplay, much like Xiao.
The key difference between Xiao and Varesa lies in how they initiate Plunging Attacks. Xiao needs his Elemental Burst for continuous Plunging Attacks, whereas Varesa can start them with Charged Attacks, allowing her to enter a more powerful state and sustain Plunging Attacks.

If you're a fan of Xiao's playstyle and enjoy this type of gameplay, Varesa could be a worthwhile addition. Her independence from her Elemental Burst for Plunging Attacks is a significant advantage. She also synergizes well with other Natlan characters, enhancing the Nightsoul's Blessing effect.
However, consider that Xianyun, a support character beneficial for Plunging Attack users like Xiao, will also be available in *Genshin Impact* 5.5 (Phase I). If you have Xiao but not Xianyun, pulling for Xianyun might be more strategic. Otherwise, Varesa offers a fresh yet familiar experience.
