The beloved cult classics, Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2, have been resurrected for PC gamers through GOG, the CD Projekt-owned platform. These survival horror gems from the PlayStation era are now available DRM-free, preserving their original content through GOG's Preservation Program.
Originally launched by Capcom, Dino Crisis hit the PlayStation in 1999, followed by Dino Crisis 2 a year later. The series took a detour with Dino Crisis 3, an Xbox exclusive in 2003, and has since remained dormant. Despite fan demand for a new installment or a high-definition remake, Capcom appears uninterested. The 2022 announcement of Exoprimal, a multiplayer action game with dinosaurs, was perceived as the final blow to hopes for a Dino Crisis revival. Furthermore, in August of the previous year, Dino Crisis creator Shinji Mikami noted that the success of Capcom's Monster Hunter series leaves little room for a Dino Crisis reboot or remake.
The PC versions of the first two Dino Crisis games were notoriously hard to find and challenging to run on modern systems, making GOG's re-release a welcome development. GOG celebrated the return of these classics, stating, "Thanks to the tremendous efforts of Capcom and GOG, Regina’s iconic line, 'You’re extinct!' no longer applies to the game itself. The timeless thriller that defined a generation of gamers is made to last forever, enhanced for today’s systems, featuring all the original content you loved with numerous improvements."
