Helldivers 2 to Remain Arrowhead's Main Focus for a Long Time, CEO Says

Helldivers 2 developers Arrowhead have recently addressed concerns from players about potentially shifting focus away from the game to work on their next project, referred to as "Game 6." This clarification came in the wake of the game's latest major update, the full-scale Illuminate invasion, which has garnered significant attention from the gaming community.

In a statement to fans on the official Helldivers Discord, CEO Shams Jorjani emphasized the company's commitment to Helldivers 2. He reassured players that "It's ALL Helldivers 2 for now," indicating that the development team's primary focus remains on the current game. Jorjani also mentioned that only a very small team would begin work on Game 6 later in the year, ensuring that Helldivers 2 remains the main priority for the foreseeable future.

Jorjani's comments about the future of Helldivers 2 were particularly reassuring. He stated that content updates would continue "as long as you folks keep playing and buying Super Credits," pointing to the in-game virtual currency used to purchase Premium Warbonds. He acknowledged past challenges but expressed optimism about the game's future, thanks to strong player support.

Regarding Game 6, Jorjani mentioned that Arrowhead aims to approach its development differently from Helldivers 2, which took eight years to create. The focus will be on nailing the "core s\*\*t" early on to ensure a smoother and more efficient development process. This approach aims to avoid the "rough" journey that characterized Helldivers 2's development.

In a significant revelation, Jorjani also indicated that Game 6 will be entirely self-funded by Arrowhead, giving them full control over its direction. This move suggests that Game 6 will not be a sequel to Helldivers and will not be published by Sony, highlighting Arrowhead's desire for creative independence.

These statements align with previous comments from Arrowhead developers who have expressed their intention for Helldivers 2 to have a long-lasting presence in the gaming world. Alex Bolle, production director on Helldivers 2, recently told IGN that the team wants the game to be around "for years and years and years to come." He emphasized the importance of staying true to the game's core fantasy while continuously introducing new features and systems.
