Get ready to experience the thrill of high-speed futuristic racing! Nintendo has announced the addition of two classic F-Zero GBA games to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack: F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend!
Launching October 11, 2024
These iconic Game Boy Advance titles will be available to Expansion Pack subscribers starting October 11th. This marks a significant event, especially for fans, as F-Zero Climax was previously a Japan-only release.
The F-Zero series, celebrating over 30 years since its 1990 debut, is renowned for its groundbreaking speed and intense gameplay. A critical success for Nintendo, it pushed the technological boundaries of its time and influenced other racing franchises like SEGA's Daytona USA.
Similar to Mario Kart, F-Zero features high-octane races filled with track obstacles and intense competition between "F-Zero machines." The series' star, Captain Falcon, even made his mark in the Super Smash Bros. series.
F-Zero: GP Legend initially launched in Japan in 2003, followed by a global release in 2004. F-Zero Climax, released in Japan in 2004, has remained region-exclusive until now – a 19-year wait! This release comes just a year after the launch of the Switch's F-Zero 99. In a past interview, F-Zero designer Takaya Imamura cited Mario Kart's popularity as a contributing factor to the F-Zero series' extended hiatus.
With the October 2024 update, Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers can experience both F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend, competing in Grand Prix, story modes, and various time trials.
