Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman in the previous DC Extended Universe, is set to bring the iconic character Lobo to life in the upcoming 2026 DC Universe film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Lobo, an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter with superhuman strength and immortality, originates from the planet Czarnia, making him the last survivor of his world, similar to Superman. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983.
Momoa, who has expressed that Lobo is his favorite comic book character, is thrilled to step into the role. He mentioned the aesthetic similarities between himself and Lobo, fueling his enthusiasm for the part. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa provided a glimpse into what fans can expect from Lobo's appearance in the film. He emphasized his excitement and nervousness about portraying the character, stating, "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play. That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool."
Momoa also clarified that while Lobo's appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be impactful, it will be brief, stating, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."
From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, though it didn't reveal much. Gunn announced on Bluesky that filming for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow had begun, with Alcock, known from House of the Dragon, playing Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl.
The movie, slated for release in June 2026, draws heavily from the graphic novel by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, who enlists Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. Matthias Schoenaerts will portray Krem, while Eve Ridley plays Ruthye. The cast also includes David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El and Emily Beecham as her mother.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is the second installment in the new DCU, following James Gunn's Superman, which is set to premiere this summer. The DCU will continue with the Clayface movie scheduled for September 2026.
