Marvel Comics' flagship Star Wars comic series is set for a May 2025 relaunch. The new series, following the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, will depict Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa's efforts to establish the New Republic and restore order to a galaxy in turmoil.
Alex Segura, author of the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, pens this latest installment. Veteran Star Wars illustrator Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) provides the art, with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing cover art for the debut issue.
Segura and Noto's Star Wars unfolds approximately two years after Return of the Jedi, immediately after the final major conflict between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance at Jakku. The fledgling New Republic faces new challenges as various opportunistic groups—pirates, thieves, and other antagonists—exploit the power vacuum.
"Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can now propel ourselves into an uncharted era, introducing fresh galactic threats, adversaries, and mysteries for our heroes to confront," Segura explained to StarWars.com. "These narratives will be action-packed, featuring the character-driven moments Star Wars fans expect, with intriguing twists on familiar settings. We've designed the series for accessibility, ensuring readers can easily jump in at any point. We're incredibly excited."
Noto added, "Alex is a phenomenal writer, crafting compelling storylines and new characters for this series. I'm thrilled to bring them to life! It's also been exhilarating to portray the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, as there are no existing film or TV counterparts. I get to create their new appearances while drawing inspiration from the original actors to maintain the feel of that time period."
Star Wars #1 launches May 7, 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day celebrations.
This isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi comic. February sees the debut of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, exploring Kylo Ren's journey following The Last Jedi.
