MH Wilds Beta Test Extension Considered After Sudden PSN Outage

Monster Hunter Wilds is considering a 24-hour extension for their Open Beta Test 2 following the PlayStation Network outage that occurred over the weekend. Learn more about the proposed extension and the circumstances that led to it.

Monster Hunter Wilds To Extend Beta Test 2

PS5 Players Could Not Play For 24 Hours

Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) is contemplating extending their Open Beta Test 2 by one day due to a 24-hour PlayStation Network outage that started at 6 PM EST on February 7th. This unexpected downtime affected all online games on the console, including the MH Wilds beta test. The service was restored around 8 PM EST, according to the official PlayStation NA X (Twitter) support account.

While the specific date or time for the extension hasn't been announced, it's confirmed to be a 24-hour addition to compensate for the lost playtime. The extension could be scheduled anytime between the end of Beta Test 2 Part 2 and February 27th, the day before the game's official release. Part 1 of Beta Test 2 has already concluded, and Part 2 is set to begin on February 13th at 7 PM PT. Players can look forward to diving back into the action and possibly encountering the amusing low-poly bug that transforms characters into blocky, low-resolution versions.

The Cursed Low-Poly Bug Returns

Capcom has noted that the beta test build is outdated and doesn't represent the final product. This has led to several bugs, including the well-known low-poly character glitch, where textures fail to load properly, turning characters, Palicos, and monsters into blocky figures.

Instead of frustration, fans have embraced this quirky glitch, sharing their encounters on social media and even expressing hope that MH Wilds will celebrate its polygonal roots in the future. In an interview with GamesRadar+, the MH Wilds team acknowledged the bug and expressed their delight in the community's response. They encourage players to experience the full game with proper specs upon its release later this month.

Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest installment in the acclaimed Monster Hunter series, introduces the first open-world setting, the Forbidden Lands. Players assume the role of the Hunter, exploring this mysterious region and confronting its apex predator, the White Wraith. The much-anticipated action-RPG is scheduled for release on February 28th, 2025, on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

PlayStation Network’s Largest Outage In Recent Years

PlayStation attributed the extensive outage to an "operational issue" and issued an apology via their NA X (Twitter) support account. As compensation, PlayStation Plus members will receive an additional five days of service.

However, the community expressed dissatisfaction with Sony's communication during the outage, recalling the panic and concern similar to the 2011 PSN outage. That event, triggered by a hacker attack, affected approximately 77 million user accounts and lasted from April 20th to May 14th. Sony provided regular updates during the 2011 incident, explaining the need for a thorough investigation into the attack's scope.
