Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 29th, 2024! We've got a hefty serving of new releases today, forming the bulk of our discussion, as is typical on Thursdays. We'll also delve into a sizable list of new sales, and that's pretty much it for today. Let's dive into the games!
The Famicom Detective Club returns after a multi-decade hiatus! This new entry stays true to the originals, for better or worse. A fresh mystery awaits, presented in a style similar to the recent Switch remakes. Can you crack the latest serial murder case? My review is coming soon.
Mikhail's already penned a comprehensive review, so I'll direct you there for a detailed look at the gameplay and Switch performance. In short: build and battle Gunpla! While performance naturally lags behind other versions, it's perfectly playable. Read Mikhail's excellent review!
Tengo Project continues its string of successful remakes/reimaginings. Following Wild Guns Reloaded, The Ninja Saviors, and Pocky & Rocky Reshrined, they tackle an 8-bit classic. This differs significantly from the original, but action-platformer fans seeking a classic vibe will find much to enjoy. My review drops early next week.
A Valfaris sequel, but with a twist! This is a 2.5D side-scrolling shoot 'em up, a departure from the original's style. While some were surprised by the genre shift, embracing the change reveals a fun experience. Review coming soon!
I'll admit, I'm not entirely sure what's going on here. The food imagery is stunning, though. Playing involves… interacting with food? Photography? Secret-finding? Perhaps Mikhail will investigate further. It seems right up his alley.
If you're a monster truck or jam enthusiast… well, I'm not sure this game will appeal to both. It's about Monster Jam, the monster truck spectacle. Features local and online multiplayer, plus various modes. Reception on other platforms was mixed, but monster truck fans have limited options.
I believe this is a WitchSpring remake, though I could be mistaken. The mobile WitchSpring series always felt like a budget Atelier alternative. At this price, nearing that of a full Atelier game, I'm less certain. However, it looks like the best-looking WitchSpring yet.
An underwater exploration game with a fantastical horror twist. Investigate your missing crew's fate in a vast, dangerous underwater world. Combat is involved. Well-received on other platforms, and likely to find a Switch audience.
Voltaire, a vegan vampire rebelling against his bloodthirsty father, engages in farming and combat to thwart his dad's attempts to derail his lifestyle. A farming/action game. While I'm personally a bit fatigued by the genre, those with more energy might enjoy it.
A marble roller game with 70 stages and 80 marbles to collect, plus secret items and challenges. The familiar fast-paced, track-based gameplay is present.
A firefighting game aimed at a younger audience, featuring 20 missions and a style that differs from more realistic offerings.
A grotesque action game starring a hoverboarding, blade-wielding cat. While the core game is decent, the Switch version suffers from technical issues affecting the experience.
A 1985 Konami vertical shooter featuring a transforming robot protagonist. A charming, pre-Tiger Heli shooter.
An early game expansion pack, offering a new underworld to explore in a gameplay style identical to the first game. Features music by the legendary Yuzo Koshiro.
A blend of horror, survival, and roguelite elements. Best experienced with up to ten online players.
A clever puzzle game where you, a sentient tin can, tackle worm-related challenges across 100 puzzles.
Two NES-style microgames featuring ninja-themed challenges, ideal for local multiplayer.
A surprisingly fun puzzle game with two modes: falling blocks and a wood-block-style arrangement. The goal is to create rows or columns where dice faces add up to multiples of ten.
(North American eShop, US Prices)
It's The King of Fighters' 30th anniversary! Hamster and SNK are celebrating with a sale on every Arcade Archives title in the series. Many Pixel Game Maker Series games are also at their lowest prices yet.

That’s all for today, friends. We’ll be back tomorrow to wrap up the week, covering remaining new releases, sales, and news. Perhaps some reviews as well. A major typhoon is hitting, so there's a chance I might miss tomorrow's update. We'll see. Have a great Thursday, and thanks for reading!
