Recent reports indicate the Nintendo Switch 2's rumored "C" button might be dedicated to chat functions. This could resolve a significant mystery surrounding the upcoming console's hardware.
Since late 2024, numerous leaks have surfaced regarding the Switch 2, likely due to its entry into mass production. These leaks consistently show an extra button—a dark gray "C"—located on the right Joy-Con, below the home button. However, the button's purpose remained unknown until now.
Datamining of the latest Switch OS, reported from a dedicated Discord community, uncovered references to a feature called "Campus." This feature appears to be a group and voice chat system for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
The same source indicates "Campus" will include screen sharing and support groups of up to 12 users. While the codename starts with "C," the button's function likely relates to "chat," rather than the feature's name. This refutes the popular theory that the "C" button would be used for screen casting.
Group and voice chats necessitate internet connectivity, suggesting NSO subscription would be required. However, this remains speculative. The original Switch notably lacked such features, prioritizing a kid-friendly design. Reintroducing chat could introduce complexities Nintendo might wish to avoid.
The existence and function of the "C" button, along with other Switch 2 details, will likely be revealed during the official announcement, expected this Thursday, January 16th.
