Meridiem Games Cancels Omori's European Physical Release for Switch and PS4
Meridiem Games, the European publisher for the popular RPG Omori, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. The publisher cited technical difficulties related to multilingual European localization as the reason for the cancellation.
A History of Delays
The physical release faced numerous delays. Initially slated for March 2023, it was postponed to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally to January 2025. These repeated setbacks ultimately led to the cancellation, leaving pre-order customers disappointed. While Meridiem Games offered little further explanation regarding the specific localization issues, the news has sparked considerable frustration among fans eager to experience Omori in their native languages.
The cancellation is a significant blow, as it prevents a localized physical release in Spanish and other European languages. European players will still be able to obtain physical copies, but only through importing the US version.
About Omori
Omori is a critically acclaimed RPG following Sunny, a young boy grappling with the aftermath of a traumatic event. The game seamlessly blends reality and Sunny's dream world, where he embodies the persona of Omori. Initially released on PC in December 2020, the game later launched on Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox version was subsequently removed due to an unrelated issue involving an older, inappropriate T-shirt design sold by the developer, OMOCAT.
