A Japanese YouTuber has achieved a remarkable feat in Pokémon TCG Pocket, amassing a collection of over 50,000 cards by consistently purchasing the maximum daily allowance of Poké Gold since the game's launch. This impressive accomplishment sheds light on the game's engaging mechanics and its recent collaborations.
Hajimesyacho, a popular Japanese YouTuber known for diverse content ranging from product reviews to vlogs and challenges, revealed his impressive Pokémon TCG Pocket collection on Twitter (X). Since the game's October 30, 2024 launch, he's purchased the daily maximum of 720 Poké Gold, amounting to an estimated $100 per day. Over the game's 85-day lifespan, this equates to approximately $8,500—a figure that excludes any potential savings from in-game sales events.
This dedication allowed Hajimesyacho to acquire a vast collection encompassing cards from the Genetic Apex (A1) and Mythical Island booster packs, as well as limited-time promotional cards. His collection even includes the recently released "Pokedex" Trainer card, awarded for the global milestone of 40 billion cards collected in Pokémon TCG Pocket.
Adding to the excitement, The Pokémon Company announced a collaboration with McDonald's on January 21, 2025. Pokémon-themed Happy Meals feature collectible physical cards and in-game items for Pokémon TCG Pocket. Fifteen unique physical cards, including popular Pokémon like Miraidon, Roaring Moon, and Rayquaza (seven of which are holo/foil cards), are available randomly. In-game rewards include 24 Pack Hourglasses and 12 Hourglasses for opening booster packs and utilizing the Wonder Pick feature.
Four distinct Happy Meal box designs showcase iconic dragon-type Pokémon: Charizard, Rayquaza, Roaring Moon, and Dragonite, alongside Pikachu. These limited-time offers are available at participating McDonald's restaurants while supplies last, with in-game rewards expiring on March 31, 2025.
On January 17, 2025, Pokémon TCG Pocket announced details about its upcoming trading feature. Trading will be limited to friends with cards of the same rarity (1-4 diamonds and 1-star), excluding rarer cards like Special Illustration Rare, Immersive, and Crown Rares. A consumable item, similar to Stardust in Pokémon GO, will facilitate trades.
Initially, trading will include cards from the Genetic Apex (A1) and Mythical Island booster packs, with the developers promising to expand the selection based on player feedback. A new booster pack is also teased for release in January, though the exact date remains unannounced.
