Atlus officially confirmed during yesterday's Xbox Game Showcase that a Persona 4 remake titled Persona 4 Revival is indeed in development. However, the brief 40-second reveal trailer left some fans underwhelmed.
Criticism quickly emerged regarding the game's visual presentation, with concerns about graphical quality, color grading, animation, and lighting systems. Others expressed disappointment over the lack of key details like a release window or confirmation of a Nintendo Switch 2 version.
"The graphics look like basic Unreal Engine assets," commented one player. Another added: "It almost looks like a fan project (no offense)." The sentiment was echoed by others who found the reveal "highly underwhelming."
Given that the remake had been widely leaked beforehand, some speculated the sparse trailer was simply acknowledging development had begun. "This looks like a 'fine, here you go' announcement," noted a fan, while another observed: "Feels like a last-minute compilation after the voice actors confirmed they weren't returning."
In response to the feedback, P-Studio director Kazuhisa Wada addressed fans on social media, confirming Atlus remains committed to the Persona series' future. "We're thrilled to announce Persona 4 Revival," Wada wrote. "As a beloved title that spawned multiple spin-offs including anime and rhythm games, Persona 4 holds special meaning for our team."
Wada emphasized the studio is applying their full passion to create an experience that will both surprise longtime fans and welcome newcomers. He also hinted at ongoing plans for the broader Persona franchise, promising more updates soon.
