If you're a fan of The Mandalorian and Grogu, you might already be hyped about Sigourney Weaver's involvement in the upcoming film. IGN had the chance to sit down with her to talk about her new character, her journey with the series, and her thoughts on everyone's favorite green guy.
Sigourney's character, dressed in a Rebel pilot uniform, plays a key role in protecting the New Republic from remnants of the Empire. She explains that her connection to Grogu was one of the main draws for taking on this role. During our conversation, she shared how Grogu's charm and personality made him stand out, even among the talented team of puppeteers bringing him to life.
When asked about working with Grogu compared to other iconic creatures in her career—like Xenomorphs or Na'vi—she couldn't help but gush about how Grogu's cuteness is unmatched. "He's definitely the cutest," she laughed. "If Xenomorphs are here and Slimer is over there, Grogu is way over the line."
Sigourney admitted she hadn't watched The Mandalorian until after she was cast, which gave her a fresh perspective on the series. "I felt it was a great concept—a Western with a few surprises," she said. "Din Djarin and Grogu were wonderful characters, and the bad guys, like Werner Herzog, added such intrigue."
In the film, viewers will see more of Grogu's Force powers, particularly during a humorous moment involving a bowl of snacks. "He's always trying to do something," Sigourney joked. "Thankfully, I managed to hold onto mine." She noted that Grogu's transition from a curious learner to a skilled apprentice is evident in both the series and the movie.
Reflecting on her experience with Star Wars, Sigourney expressed her admiration for Rogue One, praising Felicity Jones's character. She believes the franchise offers something for everyone and continues to evolve beautifully.
As for the age-old debate—Grogu vs. a Xenomorph—Sigourney sided with the latter. "He can't help himself," she explained. "A Xenomorph just has to take over and destroy, whereas Yoda and Grogu are on the side of good."
Looking ahead, fans can look forward to seeing Sigourney's character interact further with Grogu in theaters on May 22, 2026. Until then, enjoy this exclusive interview and get ready for more adventures in a galaxy far, far away.
