Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are teaming up for a big-screen adaptation of the hit video game, Helldivers 2. The exciting news was revealed at CES 2025 by PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash, who stated, "We're thrilled to announce that we've commenced development on a film based on our incredibly popular Helldivers 2 game." While specifics remain under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space battles on the silver screen.
Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Studios, is a captivating shooter drawing inspiration from the classic Star Troopers. The game achieved remarkable success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, boasting 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. Its popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original Helldivers.
Adding to the excitement, a movie based on Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a joint venture between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures – the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted film adaptation.
Asad Qizilbash offered an initial glimpse into the Horizon Zero Dawn project: "We're in the early stages of production for the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can already assure viewers: this world and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic portrayal."
