Hazelight Games proudly announced that their latest co-op adventure, Split Fiction, has achieved a phenomenal start by selling 2 million copies within just one week of its release. Launched on March 6 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, the game has quickly cemented its place as another triumph for the studio. Hazelight expressed their gratitude and astonishment on social media, stating they were "blown away" by the overwhelming support from both new and returning fans.
The game's initial sales figures were already impressive, with 1 million copies sold within the first 48 hours of its launch. This means an additional million players have joined Mio and Zoe’s sci-fi journey in the subsequent five days. Split Fiction's cooperative nature suggests the actual number of players engaging with the game is significantly higher than the sales figures indicate. This is further enhanced by the game's Friend’s Pass feature, which allows one player to buy the game and invite a friend to play for free, thereby amplifying its reach among gaming enthusiasts. As Split Fiction continues to generate buzz on social media, the sales numbers are expected to climb even higher.
Reflecting on past successes, Hazelight's previous title, 2021 Game of the Year winner It Takes Two, experienced a similar trajectory. It sold approximately 1 million copies shortly after its March 2021 launch, eventually reaching 10 million copies by February 2023 and an impressive 20 million copies by October 2024.
In IGN's Split Fiction review, the game was praised as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another," highlighting its innovative and dynamic gameplay experience.
