Square Enix has reignited excitement among fans with a definitive update on Kingdom Hearts 4. In a recent social media post brimming with enthusiasm and accompanied by captivating images, the developer has unequivocally confirmed that the long-awaited sequel is indeed in active development.

The announcement comes on the heels of the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a GPS-based action-RPG for mobile devices. Despite this setback, Square Enix seized the moment to reassure fans that their focus remains firmly on Kingdom Hearts 4. "We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" the team declared, alongside a visually stunning collage of screenshots. These images offer fans a glimpse of the characters, cinematic scenes, combat, platforming, and even a formidable giant enemy that players can expect to encounter.

Expressing gratitude for the fans' unwavering support and excitement, Square Enix stated, "We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts. We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."

This update marks the first substantial news on the much-anticipated sequel in months, following a tiny, cryptic tease for Kingdom Hearts 4 back in January. Although the game was initially unveiled with a full cinematic trailer in September 2022, Square Enix had remained largely silent until now.

Series director Tetsuya Nomura has hinted that Kingdom Hearts 4 will bring the epic narrative, spanning 22 years and 18 games, closer to its conclusion. This adds an extra layer of anticipation for fans eager to see how the story will unfold.

Regarding the canceled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix offered their "heartfelt apologies to everyone who have been looking forward" to it. The project was discontinued as it was deemed "difficult [...] to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
