Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles Reveals Another New Character

Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles Adds Jar Jar Binks and More Playable Characters

Get ready for some unexpected lightsaber action! Aspyr has announced the surprising addition of Jar Jar Binks as a playable character in the upcoming re-release of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles for modern consoles. A new trailer showcases Jar Jar wielding a hefty staff, delivering his signature brand of chaotic combat.

This isn't the only new addition to the roster. The original Jedi Power Battles, released in 2000, already boasted a diverse cast, but Aspyr is significantly expanding the playable character lineup. Jar Jar joins nine other newly revealed characters, with more promised before launch.

The updated Jedi Power Battles aims to recapture the nostalgic charm of the original while adding fresh content. Along with customizable lightsaber colors and cheat code support, players can expect a much larger selection of playable characters. Aspyr's recent trailer highlighted Jar Jar's gameplay, showing him battling enemies with his unique fighting style and iconic voice lines. While some might have fantasized about a Darth Jar Jar-esque red lightsaber wielding Jar Jar, this version sticks to a more traditional (though still delightfully chaotic) approach.

New Playable Characters Revealed:

The list of newly announced playable characters is impressive and varied:

  • Jar Jar Binks
  • Rodian
  • Flame Droid
  • Gungan Guard
  • Destroyer Droid
  • Ishi Tib
  • Rifle Droid
  • Staff Tusken Raider
  • Weequay
  • Mercenary

This diverse roster includes familiar faces like the Staff Tusken Raider and Rodian, alongside several droid types. The inclusion of both Jar Jar Binks and the Gungan Guard highlights Aspyr’s commitment to expanding the original game's already impressive cast.

With the game's release on January 23rd fast approaching, fans can soon experience these new additions firsthand. Pre-orders are now open. Aspyr's track record with other classic Star Wars game updates, such as Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, offers hope that this re-release will deliver a truly enhanced and nostalgic experience for longtime fans.
