Reaching a Wider Audience

Suikoden STAR LEAP Promises to be a Mobile Game with a Console-Like Experience

Suikoden STAR LEAP aims for a console-like experience on mobile. In a March 4, 2025 interview with Famitsu, the development team shared their vision. Producer Shinya Fujimatsu explained Konami's decision to choose mobile: "We wanted as many people as possible to experience Suikoden, so we chose mobile as the most accessible platform. And if we're going to bring it to mobile, we want to ensure it retains the true spirit of Suikoden, so I'm taking on the challenge of creating a numbered entry that truly captures that essence."

The team's goal is to deliver console-quality visuals, sound, and storytelling, seamlessly integrated with the convenience of mobile play.

Capturing the Essence of Suikoden in STAR LEAP

Fujimatsu highlights the series' unique blend of war themes and profound friendships: "In Suikoden STAR LEAP, depicting the story of the new 108 Stars is crucial to capturing the heart of Suikoden."

Director Yoshiki Meng Shan expands on this, noting the series' characteristic upbeat atmosphere alongside serious moments: "Another key element is the battle tempo. The large-scale battles with many characters working together are uniquely Suikoden."

A Sequel and Prequel in One

STAR LEAP serves as both a sequel and prequel, spanning various eras within the Suikoden timeline. It's a brand-new installment, officially canon to the series' history. The story begins two years before the events of Suikoden I, but will also explore other timelines, effectively bridging the gap between Suikoden I and V.

Fujimatsu encourages fans to anticipate a high-quality experience: "Even if you've never played the series, we've made it easily accessible on mobile, with a story and gameplay designed to be welcoming to newcomers. We hope you'll experience this as your first Suikoden."

Meng Shan echoes this sentiment: "Suikoden is a leading RPG series in Japan. We've paid meticulous attention to every aspect—story, graphics, battle system, sound, and training system—to live up to its legacy. We hope you'll enjoy it upon release."

Suikoden STAR LEAP was announced during the Suikoden Live broadcast on March 4, 2025, alongside other upcoming projects. The game is in development for iOS and Android. A release date has yet to be announced.
