Marvel Snap is traveling back in time with its Prehistoric Avengers season. The featured Season Pass card – and arguably the most potent addition – is Agamotto, an ancient sorcerer linked to Doctor Strange. Discover the top Agamotto deck strategies for Marvel Snap here.

How Agamotto Works in Marvel Snap

Agamotto is a 5-Cost, 10-Power card. Its ability reads: "Game Start: Shuffle 4 Ancient Arcana into your deck."

The Ancient Arcana shuffled into your deck are:

Temporal Manipulation: A 1-Cost card with the ability: "On Reveal: Give Agamotto +3 Power. If he's not in play, add him to your hand. (Banish this.)" Wombs of Watoomb: A 2-Cost card with the ability: "On Reveal: Afflict an enemy card here with -5 Power and move it right. (Banish this.)" Bolts of Balthakk: A 3-Cost card with the ability: "On Reveal: Next turn, you gain +4 Energy. (Banish this.)" Images of Ikonn: A 4-Cost card with the ability: "On Reveal: Transform your other cards here into copies of the highest-Power one. (Banish this.)"

You'll notice two key traits of the Ancient Arcana: they have no Power value, and they feature the new "Banish" keyword.

Lacking a Power stat, the Ancient Arcana are considered Skill cards, not character cards. They are played to the board and "banished" afterward, meaning they don't enter the discard or destroy pools and cannot be returned to play.

Consequently, you can combo the Ancient Arcana with Wong, but Odin cannot retrigger them. Cards like King Etri won't pull Agamotto, and Ravonna Renslayer won't reduce their Cost. Mister Negative also has no effect on them.

With such diverse effects, Agamotto doesn't fit neatly into one archetype, as he dilutes your deck and can complicate specific game plans.

Best Day One Agamotto Decks in Marvel Snap

Agamotto will likely establish his own archetype, though that may take a week or two. In the meantime, he fits exceptionally well into two deck types: Wiccan Control and Push Scream. Here is the Wiccan Control list:

Quicksilver Hydra Bob Hawkeye Kate Bishop Iron Patriot Sam Wilson Captain America Cassandra Nova Rocket Raccoon and Groot Copycat Galacta Wiccan Agamotto Alioth

This is a high-investment list featuring several Series 5 cards; Quicksilver is the only exception. If you haven't collected recent Season Pass cards, this deck might not be ideal. However, most cards aside from Galacta, Wiccan, and Agamotto can be swapped for similar Cost alternatives.

While diluting a Wiccan-focused deck is usually risky, Bolts of Balthakk provides +4 Energy the following turn, ensuring a strong finish even if you miss playing Wiccan on curve.

The other Ancient Arcana synergize powerfully here. Temporal Manipulation pulls Agamotto from your deck early, increasing your chances of drawing other spells. Wombs of Watoomb offers excellent disruption. Images of Ikonn duplicates your strongest card at a location, allowing you to multiply Cassandra Nova's effect, stack Wiccan's energy buff, or—best of all—flood the board with multiple Galactas to dominate the final two lanes.

Cassandra Nova may see increased play, as Eson—another card released with Agamotto—synergizes well with Arishem decks.

Last month's top-performing deck, Scream Push, is also a solid home for Agamotto. Here’s the list:

Hydra Bob Scream Iron Patriot Kraven Sam Wilson Captain America Spider-Man Rocket Raccoon and Groot Miles Morales Spider-Man Stegron Cannonball Agamotto

This list is also costly, featuring Series 5 cards like Hydra Bob, Scream, Iron Patriot, Sam Wilson, Rocket Raccoon and Groot, and Cannonball. You can substitute Hydra Bob with Nightcrawler and Iron Patriot with Jeff.

While only Wombs of Watoomb directly synergizes with the deck's move theme, the other Arcana provide valuable utility. Temporal Manipulation makes Agamotto a potent turn 6 play, especially after playing Bolts of Balthakk. Images of Ikonn, however, is the star—it can duplicate multiple Screams, Spider-Mans, or Cannonballs to devastate your opponent's board position.

Will Agamotto improve this deck? He certainly makes it less predictable and provides counterplay against decks running Luke Cage or Shadow King, making him a strong situational upgrade.

Should You Buy the Prehistoric Avengers Season Pass?

Unless he receives a nerf, Agamotto's power level rivals that of Thanos or Arishem. He will be a meta staple, creating challenging scenarios and powerful synergies that will undoubtedly frustrate opponents. Given his potential to define a new archetype, he is a worthwhile addition if your budget allows for the $9.99 USD Season Pass.
