The developers of The Witcher 4 have issued a stern warning to fans about a deceptive beta test invitation scam. Learn more about CD Projekt Red’s statement on this issue and their groundbreaking decision to feature Ciri as the protagonist in The Witcher 4.
CD Projekt Red, the team behind The Witcher 4, has alerted the gaming community about a widespread beta test invite scam. On April 16, they took to The Witcher’s official Twitter (X) to address the issue, stating that they had received multiple reports of fraudulent invitations to a non-existent beta test for The Witcher 4.
Their tweet advised, "We've been taking the necessary steps to take down this fraudulent messaging. If you receive any invites to or stumble upon news of one, please report the scam using the tools available to you in your email client or the social media platform you are using."
CD Projekt Red emphasized that any future legitimate beta tests would be announced first through their official channels on social media and their website.
The Witcher 4 made its grand debut at the Game Awards in December 2024, captivating audiences with a trailer that introduced Ciri as the new protagonist. This announcement sparked widespread discussion, as the previous three games in the series had Geralt as the lead character.
In an interview with VGC, The Witcher 4 Narrative Director Phillipp Weber responded to fan reactions regarding Ciri's role. Weber, who also cherished playing Geralt in the past games, assured fans that the team is dedicated to addressing their concerns in upcoming reveals.
Weber stated, "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."
Executive Producer Małgorzata Mitręga expressed appreciation for the fans' support of their choice to place Ciri at the forefront. "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when it is released," Mitręga remarked.
CD Projekt Red has promised that The Witcher 4 will be the most ambitious installment yet, introducing new regions and monsters. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though a specific release date has not been announced. Stay tuned to our updates for the latest news on The Witcher 4!
