The Witcher Saga Continues: Ciri Takes Center Stage in Witcher 4
Nearly a decade after the acclaimed release of The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has unveiled the first trailer for The Witcher 4, shifting the focus to Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter. With Geralt's trilogy concluded, the spotlight falls on the younger generation.
The teaser depicts Ciri intervening in a village gripped by a superstitious ritual, showcasing her heroism and hinting at a complex narrative. The situation proves far more intricate than initially perceived, promising a compelling storyline.
While an official release date remains elusive, considering the development timelines of The Witcher 3 (3.5-4 years) and Cyberpunk 2077, a 3-4 year wait for The Witcher 4 seems plausible. Given the early stage of production, a sooner release is unlikely.
Platform exclusivity is yet to be announced; however, given the anticipated timeframe, a current-generation-only release (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC) is probable. Unlike The Witcher 3's Switch port, a similar adaptation for this installment seems less feasible, though a potential Switch 2 release remains a possibility.
Although gameplay details are scarce, the CGI trailer offers glimpses of familiar elements: potions, Signs, and the return of iconic phrases. A notable addition appears to be Ciri's chain, used for both combat and magic.
Voice actor Doug Cockle's confirmation of Geralt's involvement, albeit in a supporting role, further fuels anticipation. His presence in the trailer suggests a mentor-like function for the seasoned Witcher.
