Pirate Software's tenure with the prominent World of Warcraft streaming guild OnlyFangs ended abruptly after a fatal mishap during a Dire Maul North run. The incident occurred on the recently added World of Warcraft Anniversary servers, which have already claimed several OnlyFangs Hardcore characters.
Before the official launch of Blizzard's Hardcore servers in August 2023 (which saw a decline in popularity until the November 2024 Anniversary server launch), players established their own zero-death guidelines. The Anniversary servers revitalized World of Warcraft Classic, significantly impacting the population of the original Classic servers. Since their introduction, numerous Hardcore players have perished, while others have achieved the challenging feat of reaching level 60 under these restrictive conditions. Sara and Snupy are among the latest casualties, their deaths directly attributed to Pirate Software, resulting in his banishment from OnlyFangs by Sodapoppin.
Social media posts confirm Pirate Software's expulsion, with Guild Master Sodapoppin issuing a statement on Discord. The statement cited discomfort among guild members following the deaths of two players during the Dire Maul North run. The incident unfolded when the group pulled a boss before clearing a pack of Gordok ogres. Despite a party member's call to reset, Pirate Software abandoned the group during the escape, leading to the deaths of Sara and Snupy. While normally he might have faced lesser consequences, Pirate Software's refusal to acknowledge responsibility solidified his expulsion. The central criticism leveled against Pirate Software was his unwillingness to accept blame for the deaths. A post-run review by Twitch streamer Sodapoppin highlighted Pirate Software's failure to effectively utilize crowd control abilities, specifically suggesting he could have used Blizzard rank 1 to slow enemies without excessive mana expenditure. Mizkif and other OnlyFangs members also allege that Pirate Software made threats to fellow streamers following the incident. Pirate Software responded to his removal on Twitter, expressing dissatisfaction with the handling of the situation.
Given the high turnover within OnlyFangs since its recreation on the Anniversary server Doomhowl, some expelled members may form their own group. With Blizzard's ongoing updates to World of Warcraft Classic, including Vanilla-accurate patches, further casualties within OnlyFangs are anticipated as new dungeons and raids are introduced.
