Nintendo has officially confirmed that the Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will indeed support cloud saves, much to the relief of fans. This comes after an initial announcement that sparked concern, as reported by IGN last week. A disclaimer on Nintendo's website for the Switch 2 edition of Tears of the Kingdom originally stated that it would not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature.
However, Nintendo has since updated its website with new information. While the page for Donkey Kong Bananza has removed all references to cloud saves, the updated disclaimer for Tears of the Kingdom now clarifies that "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch." This adjustment suggests that players will be able to transfer their existing Switch 1 saves to the new Switch 2, but transferring saves back to the original system will not be possible, as noted by Eurogamer.
The same message has been added to the page for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, indicating a consistent approach to save data transfers across these titles.
In other news, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 have opened, maintaining a price of $449.99. The response has been as enthusiastic as anticipated. For more details, check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
