While Magic: The Gathering's major crossovers with franchises like Final Fantasy and Spider-Man dominate recent headlines, the next installment is already making waves. Tarkir: Dragonstorm revisits Magic's own plane of Tarkir, and we're exclusively previewing five impactful cards likely to dominate draft tables next month. (Preorders are now live on Amazon).

These five cards form a thematic cycle, sharing design elements across Magic's color pie. Each represents a common-rarity creature with clan-specific abilities and mana-fixing potential tied to Tarkir's three-color factions.
"Three-color limited environments require extensive mana fixing at all rarities," notes Senior Game Designer Adam Prosak. "We prioritized designs that let players develop boards while fixing mana, unlike tapped lands that typically slow gameplay."

Senior Worldbuilding Designer Lauren Bond explains that while mechanics drove this cycle's development, common cards also serve as worldbuilding vehicles: "From Jeskai's action monks to Sultai's jungle guardian nagas, these showcase how Tarkir's clans have evolved since players last visited."
In contrast to recent Magic sets that leaned heavily on gimmicks, Dragonstorm delivers a more grounded return to Tarkir. Senior Worldbuilding Art Director Forrest Schehl confirms this approach was intentional: "Our vision for combining Dragonstorms with clan dynamics was locked before Murders at Karlov Manor's release - we maintained focus on delivering an authentic successor to Tarkir's legacy."
Tarkir: Dragonstorm preorders are available now, with paper and digital releases scheduled for April 11, and in-store prereleases beginning April 4.
