As Stellar Blade surpasses 3 million global sales, director Hyung-tae Kim confirmed its sequel will feature a "more substantial" narrative—though development priorities initially led to significant story cuts in the first installment.
Speaking with This Is Game (via Genki), Kim explained that while deeper lore existed for protagonist Eve and her world, budget constraints forced the team to reduce cinematic sequences during development. This resulted in unanswered questions—including the infamous rationale behind Eve's frequent costume changes.
Though Shift Up debated adding post-release cutscenes to clarify plot points, Kim felt retroactive changes might contradict players' existing interpretations. Instead, the studio plans to deliver this "full narrative experience" through the upcoming sequel.
However, fans shouldn't anticipate immediate news—the team currently focuses on Stellar Blade's PC version. Kim tentatively targets a 2027 release window, pledging Shift Up will "prioritize quality" for the port.
The PC edition launched June 11 and shattered records as Sony's most successful single-player Steam debut, peaking at 192,000+ concurrent players. It eclipsed previous Sony titles like Ghost of Tsushima (77,154), God of War (73,529), and Spider-Man Remastered (66,436)—trailing only multiplayer hit Helldivers 2 in Sony's Steam catalog.
IGN's review awarded Stellar Blade 7/10, praising its core action while noting: "Compelling combat struggles against thin characterization, an underdeveloped plot, and occasionally cumbersome RPG systems that keep it from genre excellence."
The PC version enhances the experience with Nvidia DLSS 4/AMD FSR 3 upscaling, uncapped framerates, Japanese/Chinese VO, ultrawide support, upgraded textures, and DualSense haptics integration.
