Of course, they couldn't resist bringing Alicia Silverstone back into that iconic yellow and plaid outfit. The beloved actress is reportedly set to return as Cher Horowitz in a new Clueless sequel series for Peacock.
According to Variety, the series is currently in development with the streamer, and specific plot details are being kept confidential. What we do know is that Silverstone is confirmed to star, the new show will continue the story from the original 1995 film, and we have details on the creative team. This new project is also distinct from the Clueless spin-off that Peacock had been developing back in 2020.
Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the duo best known for co-creating the original Gossip Girl and executive producing its reboot, will write the series alongside Jordan Weiss. All three will also serve as executive producers, along with Amy Heckerling, the original writer-director of Clueless, and the film's original producer, Robert Lawrence. CBS Studios and Universal Television are on board as production companies.
This isn't the first time the hit 1995 comedy has been adapted for television. Following the film's success, a TV series based on the movie aired on ABC and UPN from 1996 to 1999, with Rachel Blanchard taking on the lead role instead of Silverstone.
Silverstone recently revisited her Clueless character in a 2023 Super Bowl commercial for Rakuten, so it's clear she's been eager to step back into Cher's fabulous wardrobe—and frankly, we don't blame her one bit.
