Delving into the game's optional content could extend this time by another 30 to 40 hours, bringing the total playtime estimate to approximately 80 hours. This estimation was disclosed during an interview with journalist Genki, offering clarity on the time commitment required for this expansive experience.

While Dumont previously compared Shadows to earlier entries like Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla, he later clarified that these titles differ significantly in length, making direct comparisons less meaningful. Recognizing the challenges of quantifying open-world games, Dumont noted that Shadows aligns more closely in scale with Origins. According to How Long To Beat, Origins takes around 30 hours for the main storyline and over 80 hours for perfectionists who wish to explore every aspect.

For those wary of overly lengthy campaigns, Shadows seems to strike a more balanced approach. In comparison, Valhalla has faced criticism for its lengthy main story, requiring around 60 hours, with the full experience stretching to a staggering 150 hours when including all content.
