Disney has announced that the upcoming Coco-themed attraction will be built in currently backstage areas near Disney California Adventure's Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier, while the new Avatar land will occupy part of Hollywood Backlot. This transformation means Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will permanently close in early 2026 for the Avatar project.
The Disney Parks Blog shared these updates along with new concept art, confirming that construction on the Coco attraction will commence backstage this fall. First announced at D23 2024, this marks the debut attraction based on Pixar's beloved Coco film.

The attraction will take inspiration from classic Disney rides like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean, employing cutting-edge Audio-Animatronic technology to bring skeletal characters to life in innovative ways.
The Pandora-inspired Avatar land remains in early development stages, with construction timelines and additional details to be announced later. Inspired by Avatar: The Way of Water and future franchise installments, this area will present Pandora in fresh new ways.

While Disney World's Animal Kingdom has featured Pandora - The World of Avatar since 2017, Disneyland will soon get its own immersive experience based on James Cameron's visionary films.
Though fans will miss Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!, Disney World's Hollywood Studios will offer compensation with an entirely new Monsters, Inc. land featuring the franchise's first-ever suspended coaster through the iconic door warehouse.
Disney also confirmed a new parking structure and transportation hub development on the resort's east side, replacing part of the Manchester cast member parking lot.

The upgrade will provide approximately 6,000 parking spaces, shuttle hubs, rideshare areas, and enhanced security screening with dedicated Disney Way access to improve resort-wide traffic flow. A pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard will create a new arrival experience while maintaining existing boulevard access.
