The first trailer for The Running Man has arrived, featuring Glen Powell in a fresh adaptation that stays truer to Stephen King's original novel than Arnold Schwarzenegger's 1987 sci-fi classic.
The trailer introduces Glen Powell as Ben Richards, a desperate father risking everything to join the dystopian game show "The Running Man" for his daughter's medical bills. Blacklisted and jobless, Powell's Richards contrasts sharply with Schwarzenegger's framed-cop portrayal in the earlier film.
The reboot reinvents the game's format — instead of staged battles, Powell must evade relentless nationwide pursuers while millions watch his every move. His goal? Survive 30 days for the grand prize. But survival won't come easy.
Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Baby Driver) directs this reimagining, bringing his trademark kinetic style. With Josh Brolin as showrunner Killian and Colman Domingo as host Bobby Thompson, Wright honors King's darker vision — complete with Richards' vengeful threats before entering the deadly competition.
This adaptation expands beyond the original film's battle-arena confines. Powell's Richards flees across America, showcased in thrilling sequences like a bullet-dodging apartment escape caught in the trailer.
A masked hunter named McCone (played by Lee Pace) stalks Richards relentlessly, adding another layer of mystery to the deadly chase.
The trailer confirms two things: Powell will be running constantly (shirtless included), and Michael Cera appears in a scene straight from video game logic — dousing an electrified floor to aid Richards' escape.
Cera embodies Elton Parrakis from King's novel. "His role might surprise fans of his earlier work," Wright teased about their unexpected yet compelling on-screen dynamic with Powell.
The Running Man hits theaters November 7, 2025.
