Big changes are coming for Netflix Games subscribers who enjoy Grand Theft Auto on Android. Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City will be removed from the Netflix Games catalog next month.
Why the Departure? License Expiration.
This isn't a surprise move; Netflix licenses games similarly to movies and shows. The licenses for these two GTA titles are expiring. A "Leaving Soon" label will appear on the games before their removal.
GTA III and Vice City were added to Netflix Games a year ago, reflecting a 12-month licensing agreement with Rockstar Games. After December 13th, Netflix subscribers will no longer have access to these games.
If you're currently playing either title, it's time to finish your adventures. However, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas remains available on the platform.
What's Next? Purchase the Games Directly.
To continue playing, you can purchase the Definitive Editions of GTA III and Vice City from the Google Play Store. Each game costs $4.99, or you can get the entire trilogy for $11.99.
Unlike the sudden removal of Samurai Shodown V and WrestleQuest last year, Netflix is providing advance notice. Interestingly, this decision comes despite Netflix gaining significant subscribers in 2023 thanks to the GTA trilogy.
Rumors suggest Rockstar and Netflix are collaborating on potential future projects, possibly remastered versions of Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, and Chinatown Wars. Let's hope these rumors prove true!
