Anthony Ramos, known for starring in Hamilton, has responded to early criticism surrounding Marvel's upcoming Disney+ series Ironheart - much of which emerged before the show's premiere.
The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever spinoff, focusing on Riri Williams' character, released its first three episodes last week with the final three arriving tomorrow, July 1. Surprisingly, negative reviews surfaced online even before the series debuted - particularly targeting its Black female lead.
Addressing the backlash in a recent Buzzfeed interview, Ramos compared the situation to reactions toward his role in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts: "There's always negativity no matter what project you're involved with," he said.
"People criticized Transformers, they're criticizing this - everyone's entitled to their opinion," Ramos continued. "But we know the quality of what we've created, and we're proud of it. This show dares to be different, and that makes it a target - but silence would be more concerning than discussion."
Set in Chicago, the series follows tech genius Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) as she develops an advanced, magic-enhanced suit of armor with assistance from Ramos' character, a crime boss called The Hood.
The production recently received endorsement from Robert Downey Jr., who praised Thorne's portrayal in a heartfelt video message: "Iron Man fully supports Ironheart", the MCU veteran declared.
While critical reception remains divided, Marvel has teased the introduction of a major comic book antagonist in the final episodes, urging viewers to watch this week's conclusion.
