Warhorse Studios confirms: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will be DRM-free!
Following online speculation, Warhorse Studios has officially clarified that their upcoming medieval RPG, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2), will launch without any Digital Rights Management (DRM) whatsoever. This includes Denuvo, a popular (and often controversial) anti-piracy technology.
Warhorse PR head, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, addressed the rumors directly during a recent Twitch stream, stating unequivocally that KCD2 will be completely DRM-free. He attributed the confusion to misinformation and urged players to stop repeatedly asking about DRM. He emphasized that any information suggesting otherwise is inaccurate.
The decision to forgo DRM is likely welcome news to many gamers. Denuvo, in particular, has faced criticism for potentially impacting game performance and causing compatibility issues for some players.
While Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, has previously argued that the negative perception of Denuvo is fueled by misinformation and confirmation bias, the strong player reaction against its inclusion remains a factor in many developers' decisions.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is set to release in February 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game continues the story of Henry, a blacksmith's apprentice, in medieval Bohemia, following a devastating event in his village. Players who contributed at least $200 to the game's Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy.
