Great news for handheld PC gaming enthusiasts: the Lenovo Legion Go S with SteamOS is now available for preorder at Best Buy. This portable gaming device is the first non-Valve product to ship with SteamOS, the Linux-based operating system that powers the Steam Deck. The SteamOS version of the Legion Go S launches on May 25, starting at $549.99. Let’s explore what it offers.

A 120Hz gaming handheld with an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip, 32GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD. $749.99 at Best Buy
The SteamOS-powered Legion Go S comes in two configurations. The base model includes an AMD Ryzen Z2 Go processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD, priced at $549.99—the same as the 512GB OLED Steam Deck. The upgraded model features the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip, 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD, priced at $749.99.
Whichever model you choose, you'll get a 120Hz handheld with dual USB-C ports. Storage can be expanded via a microSD card, and trigger locks allow for hair-trigger responses, which is ideal for competitive shooters like Marvel Rivals.
Both models come with more powerful chips than the Steam Deck, which means they should handle recent games that the Deck struggles with—such as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Star Wars Outlaws, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and Monster Hunter Wilds.

Note that these SteamOS-based Legion Go S models are different from the Windows 11 version released earlier this year. Check our Lenovo Legion Go S review to understand why the Windows model might not be the best choice (though it’s still available at Best Buy for $729.99).
Valve has confirmed it will make SteamOS available for other handheld devices beyond the Steam Deck. This means you’ll soon be able to install SteamOS on a wide range of handheld gaming PCs—possibly around the same time these SteamOS Legion Go S models launch. If you want a handheld more powerful than the Steam Deck running SteamOS, these models are among the top contenders.
