Although Marvel Rivals is a relatively new game, players are already imagining significant additions. Recent speculation about a potential PvE boss battle led some to believe a dedicated PvE mode was imminent. However, NetEase has recently clarified that there are currently no concrete plans for such a mode—at least not yet.
We spoke with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas this past week and directly asked him about any potential PvE mode. Here’s what he said:
"At the moment, we don’t have any specific PvE plans, but our development team is always exploring new gameplay modes. If we identify a new mode that proves engaging and enjoyable enough, we will certainly introduce it to our players."
After this, Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo chimed in to ask if I personally wanted a PvE mode in Marvel Rivals, to which I confirmed that I did. Wu went on to elaborate:
"Indeed, we recognize that a portion of our audience is interested in a PvE experience. However, introducing a hardcore PvE mode would represent a distinctly different style of gameplay compared to what’s currently available. Our team is constantly testing various approaches—potentially a more casual or lighter version of PvE—to determine what fits our game best."
For the time being, it seems clear that PvE isn't officially in development, but Wu appears to hint that NetEase is considering ideas for a more approachable or limited-time game mode, possibly as a special event. Beyond that, the company is keeping further details under wraps.
Marvel Rivals continues to receive regular updates approximately every six weeks, introducing new heroes like the Human Torch and The Thing, who are scheduled to join the roster on February 21. We also discussed with Wu and Koo the possibility of a Nintendo Switch 2 release for Marvel Rivals—more on that here—and questioned whether the team intentionally plants false hero "leaks" in the game files to mislead dataminers.
